The Power of Love

February - the month of cupids and love...or on a patriotic note...the celebration of two most remarkable Presidents of the United States...Abraham Lincoln on the 12th and George Washington on the 22nd.  It truly is a GREAT month of fun and gratitude celebrations...

This February 2010...will have a different tone to it for me...but, one of HOPE...and one filled with GRATITUDE...

The OUTPOURING of LOVE for Garvin due to his current physical challenge...has been one of PURE CHARITY...from all across the country...The POWER of PRAYERS...have given us the COURAGE to MOVE in a direction to "overcome" his current condition....It has affected both Garvin and myself...

It is hard enough to change a major pattern of "eating"...but, to REFINE it in such a radical manner...takes all the "self mastery" one can find inside one's soul...

But like all "challenges"...they can become GIFTS....We are finding "hidden treasures" that come from this "deep spiritual cleansing"...

I didn't want Garvin to walk the path alone...so, I am incorporating 90% of the changes he has to make in his life...in order to "give him more time" to do his work here on the earth...Consequently....we are BOTH being GREATLY BLESSED...Garvin has lost 18 pounds...and I have lost almost 10 pounds...But, it isn't simply the WEIGHT LOSS that is blessing us...It is the types of foods that we are putting into our mouths...Living the "Word of Wisdom" in the DO areas of the commandment...has been INCREDIBLE....Can feel the difference...in small ways, already...

We have a LONG WAY to go...BUT...with GREAT HOPE...and FAITH...that the path we are taking...will lead us to a more fulfilling physical life here on this earth...

THANK YOU...to EACH OF YOU...for YOUR LOVE and SUPPORT...What a difference it has made...in our lives....

  1. Loved your post Debbie! Not sure about you folks but on Sundays we usually have just 2 meals and a snack. Yesterday we had quick breakfast and for supper I made chili rellenos with eggs laid yesterday morning with sliced fresh apples. (oh so sorry the Chickens had to labor on the sabbath). We got hungry again in the evening and Buddy asked if I wanted microwaved popcorn. I would have said yes but I have been involved in a weight loss group the past 10 weeks (and have lost another 10 pounds) and in the group we get points for eating 5 servings of fruits and veggies every day. So for 10 weeks I have eaten at least 5 fruits and veggies each day. So here it is evening and I have only eaten 1 fruit. So I said- well maybe we can have popcorn in a bit (but not yuck microwave) but first I have to eat some veggies. WE didn't have much but I cut up celery, bell peppers and yellow squash and Buddy said- that looks good can I have that too. But as we were sitting down to snack on that (with some hummus and tatsiki yogurt) I remembered I had planned to make Alli's smoothies. So I jumped up and made that too. Thought I'd pass her simple recipe along to you. Looks weird but tastes like a glass of fresh:
pack blender about 1/2 full of loosely packed organic baby spinach
2 T. agave nectar (natural nectar low on glycemic index)
    1 c. ice
    1 c. water
1 banana (my happened to be frozen)
    5-6 large strawberries

Blend. If you use frozen fruit it comes out thicker. Yummmmmm. We really love our Vitamix blender. They are super expensive but have a tamper stick that makes it so easy to blend every everything in the blender. Honestly I think these blenders could make a smoothie out of a board and nails they are so powerful. We prefer to eat (drink) the whole fruit including the pulp so we use this instead of juicing. By the way by the time we drank our smoothies and munched on our veggies we didn't want any popcorn. Oh and Debbie there are way too many ingredients in the yogurt (which I buy at Costco) but lots of recipes on the internet. Guess I'm going to have to start making mine fresh.

  2. Oh I have another thing to share. As you try to incorporate more fresh veggies and a bigger variety add Jicama to your list. It's a veggie my mom used to serve and I love it. It looks like a big (4-6 inches) ugly dirty turnip type veggie. You peel it and eat it. It tastes like a cross between an apple and a potato.... sounds weird but yummy.

Also I had a great salad made by Lilia the other night. It had fresh beats in it. She had boiled them (as you do a potato) but I read that they taste better baked. I had only had pickled canned beats so thought I hated them but this was yummy just sliced and in a salad. She also put in fresh radishes another veggie I don't mind eating but never think to buy. I read that salads should always have dark greens and at least 5 other veggies. Yum!! Best salad dressing is a yummy balsamic vinegar (I like pear and fig) and olive oil. Yum Yum

  3. Sandee...I am saving all this notes to my "Health" file...I have NEVER heard of Jicama...I will look for it...sounds really wonderful...

I have just incorporated "sea vegetables" to my diet...to strengthen my thyroid...I made a brew with MISO and added "Dulce" to the broth...I was thinking I would most likely will gag on it...but, was so PLEASANTLY surprised that it was MILD to the taste....I actually enjoyed it...!
